Winter Watch, North Atlantic
The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle of World War II. It could not have been won without Canada’s small but mighty navy, who ably demonstrated the axiom "Size Doesn’t Matter". In a North Atlantic winter, the weather was just as much an enemy as the Germans. Mr. Willy Smith, an ex-Merchant Mariner, was a living resource for this depiction of an ice-clad destroyer. This painting was a gift to my daughter, SLt Elizabeth Sneyd.
